On Saturday 4 November 2023, Chester Racecourse’s iconic Lord Mayor’s Fireworks Extravaganza will return to the Roodee!

Enjoy the firework display that will illuminate the sky over the city, set to a curated playlist with some of Hollywood’s biggest soundtracks, for an atmosphere unlike any other. Earlier in the evening there will be a junior fireworks display for younger ones that might not like big bangs to enjoy.

Additionally, there will be exhilarating LED light performers providing a visual spectacle for all to enjoy in the lead up to the main display. You’ll have no difficulty in spotting our performers around the racecourse on the night.

A full fairground will also be in attendance on the racecourse for the Fireworks Extravaganza, as well as a vast range of food and drink outlets for you to choose from on the night.

The Lord Mayor’s Fireworks Extravaganza at Chester Racecourse is the number one place to be this November.

Children 4 years old and under are admitted free with an accompanying adult. Please select a child ticket at checkout. Gates open at 5pm, quiet fireworks display start at 6.45pm and the main fireworks display is at 7.30pm.

Tickets are not available to purchase on the gate.

Children 4 and under are admitted free to the fireworks event with a paying adult. You will need to pre-book a ticket for your child through the website prior to attending the event. Tickets are subject to booking fees.

Please be aware, we may ask to check your child’s height in order to provide free admission.

The Open Course car park will not be open to guests due to the fireworks taking place in this area. In addition, the Holiday Inn Express car park is for customers of the hotel only and will not be open to fireworks attendees. Please click here to find car parks you may wish to use for the event.

Unfortunately, no disabled parking is available on site on the night of the fireworks event. The closest car park is across the street and is the Watergate Street car park which is council owned.

There will be a wide range of food vendors on site for this event serving a variety of food and drink options to suit all tastes. In addition, a number of Chester Racecourse bars and eateries will be open during the event offering food and drink to purchase.

For the fireworks night, road closures used for race days will be used in the same way. Road closures are in place around the racecourse to enable pedestrians’ safe entry to and exit from the Racecourse.

Between the hours of 13:00 and 23:59, road closures will be in place on New Crane Street, Watergate Street and Nuns Road. Safety barriers will enforce the closures, providing additional security to members of the public.

Those visiting the racecourse by car should follow the temporary yellow signage in place on approach to the city of Chester to reach the racecourse. We recommend that you do not input the Chester Racecourse postcode (CH1 2LY) into your Sat Nav, but instead approach from Sealand Road (to the West of the city) using postcode CH1 4LD.

We want everyone to be able to enjoy the stunning fireworks display at the world’s oldest racecourse. As part of this, anyone who requires a carer with them, will be entitled to 1 free ticket for their carer to attend the display with them. In order to take advantage of this, please call the Box Office on 01244 304610 ahead of the event itself and let our team know you would like to make a booking using this entitlement.
