This Saturday 10 September, ex-Racing Post journalist David Ashforth will launch his brand new book ‘Ashforth’s Curiosities of Horseracing’ at Chester Racecourse and in partnership with Tote during the Autumn Festival Saturday race meeting.
David has had an extensive and successful career in sporting journalism, writing for established publications both in the UK and in the United States including The Sporting Life, Racing Times and Daily Racing Form, over a career which saw him voted ‘Horserace Writer of the Year’ twice!
David’s tenth and latest book, ‘Ashforth’s Curiosities of Horseracing’ brings together a collection of fascinating tales from one of the world’s oldest and best-loved sports. From bookies and officials to owners and trainers, the book will tell the story of the sport of kings through the eyes of industry stakeholders. Sponsored by Tote – Chester’s official betting partner – the book also contains fascinating images from across centuries of horseracing at varying tracks.
David will be in attendance for Chester Racecourse’s penultimate race meeting of 2022 to host a book signing outside the Paddock Rooms and adjacent to the Parade Ring. His book will also be on sale here for the very first time so that racegoers can grab a copy of the brand-new book for themselves.
Karen McCall of Merlin Unwin Books said “our whole experience publishing David Ashforth has been a pleasure, from original manuscript to finished book. And when David heard that Chester racecourse was willing to get behind his new book so enthusiastically, offering us this Saturday Chester raceday for the launch, it just got better”.
David Ashforth added “I’d like to thank the team at Chester for the wonderfully enthusiastic and professional help they’ve given to support Ashforth’s Curiosities of Horseracing. Both Merlin Unwin Books and myself are really grateful”.
Louise Stewart, CEO of Chester Race Company, commented “we’re so thrilled to be able to host the launch of David’s new book. David has had an incredible career in the horseracing industry, and we’re so pleased he has chosen our racecourse as the place to launch his latest venture”.
